Hyperkin Retron 5: 9 Consoles in 1

Announced this past weekend at the Midwest Gaming Classic (which the Eric’s were at), the newly announced Retron 5 can play the original cartridges of nine retro consoles.

Hyperkin, the company behind products such as the Retron 3 and a bevy of adapters, was supposed to reveal the Retron 4 at this past weekend’s Midwest Gaming Classic. The Retron 4 was supposed to feature four cartridge ports, allowing for the play of NES/Famicon, SNES, Genesis/Megadrive, and Gameboy through Gameboy Advanced cartridges.

However, the company instead decided to expand on it’s functionality, and revealed the existence of the now-renamed Retron 5. The system will feature five cartridge slots, which will also allow you to play  Japanese Famicom games (which have a different pin configuration).

The system will also feature custom Bluetooth controllers, ports for original controllers, save states, and upscaling for 720p HDMI output. If you want to go for a “pure” retro experience with a CRT display, the system will also feature AV ports. Hyperkin is currently aiming of a July releases at an MRSP of less that $100.

Anyone out there going to pick one up? Or are you going to stick to getting the original hardware?

Did I mention it also allows you to play both PAL and NTSC games?
