15 Year Old MMO Receives Last Update

Are you still playing 1999’s Asheron’s call? If so, you’ll be sad to know that it received it’s last patch this Tuesday.

While new content wont be a priority for the team at Turbine, they still plan to operate and maintain the game. Servers will remain open, critical bugs will be fixed, and general maintenance and support will continue.

As an added bonus, all current players will soon be able to play the game for free, as a thank-you from Turbine for supporting their game for the last 15 years.

They will also be allowing players to host their own server in the next year, though it will require the creation and configuration of a SQL server.

All that said, it’s amazing that a game has maintained its popularity with players all these years. It is, after all, the third major MMO launched by the gaming industry (after Everquest and Ultima Online).

You can read all about there plans via a post on the official forums.
