Raspberry Pi’s $10,000 Quake 3 Bounty

Having successfully sold over 2.5 million units of their versatile little computer, the creators of the Raspberry Pi have set forth a $10,000 prize to the first person to get Quake 3 running on the device.

Originally released in February of 2012, this credit card sized computer has been hit for hobbyists and tinkerers alike. While people have gotten Quake 3 running on the Raspberry Pi before, with less than orthodox methods, the objective of this new contest is to get the game up and running using Broadcom’s newly documented VideoCore IV graphics core.

As the creators of the Raspberry Pi admit, “lack of true open-source graphics drivers and documentation is widely acknowledged to be a significant problem for Linux on ARM, as it prevents users from fixing driver bugs, adding features and generally understanding what their hardware is doing.”

With that, Raspberry Pi’s $10,000 incentive should most likely get the game up and running, using the required graphics core, in no time.
