Snatcher remaster for Dreamcast

Though the Dreamcast came to market some 15 years ago in North America, the system still amazingly receives releases to this day. The newly announced homebrew remaster of Hideo Kojima’s Snatcher aims to continue Sega’s console legacy.

While Snatcher was originally released in Japan in 1988 for the NEC PC-8801 and MSX2 computer systems, this homebrew release is actually a remaster of the 1994 North American Sega-CD port. The game sees you take control of investigator Gillian Seed, who is investigating a breed of biroroids (known as Snatchers) that are killing people and assuming their place in society.

Here’s a look at the work-in-progress graphics:

Though enhanced lighting has been added to the game, the smoothing of the graphics may not go over well with pixel-purists.

The only current details available of the remaster are via the Collectorvision Facebook page, but hopefully their official website will soon carry some additional info. The release date for the game and remixed soundtrack are currently unknown. We’ll keep you posted as the game develops.
