Unreleased Super Nintendo Prototype ‘Buck Rogers’ Found

Developed by Loriciel, this game never saw the light of day due to licensing issues.

Originally supposed to be released in 1993 by French developer Loriciel, the game was to feature Buck Rogers fighting his way through action-packed futuristic worlds. Unfortunately, licensing issues caused the game to never see a release. However, a prototype has thankfully made its way into a someones hands.

If you take a look at the video below, you may realize that the game looks somewhat familiar. That’s because Loriciel supposedly didn’t want their hard work to go to waste, so they removed any reference to Buck Rogers from the game and replaced him with their existing character, Jim Power. This new Jim Power game would then see an official North American release for the SNES, and would eventually make its way to the PC too.

If you want to see the differences between Jim Power and Buck Rogers, there’s a ROM floating around out there somewhere. You know where to look.
