Queries: Blake J. Harris (Episode 5)

Hey everyone! It’s Daniel, back for another edition of Queries! This time, I HAVE MY FIRST EVER AUDIO INTERVIEW! EXCITING, RIGHT!?

More than that, in this episode, I interview Blake J. Harris, the writer of Console Wars: a creative nonfiction novel that explores the battle between Sega and Nintendo in the 1990’s, and covers the clash of the giants in great depth. In the vein of The Accidental Billionaires, and maybe a little In Cold Blood, Console Wars pieces together a series of events constructed from a vast amount of interviews conducted by author (and guest for this episode) Blake J. Harris. The story that lies behind these interviews is one of the most interesting, and least known, tales in all of video game culture. The amount that I learned from the novel astounded me, considering I had previously thought I knew everything there was to know about the 16-bit wars before I even started reading.

Anyway, enough of my gushing. Thanks to Blake for taking the time to let me interview you, and thanks to my local bookstore for having this book.

If you like video games, and you like history, and especially if you like video game history, you have no reason not to read this book. I’m looking at you, Simon Reed.
