CliffyB (Jazz Jackrabbit, Unreal, Gears of War) recently gave a talk about his life and career during a keynote at PAX East 2013.
So a few years ago, I made the remark that I would pay upwards to $200 to see 90’s Alternative sensation Faith No More play in concert, for any seating, as long as it was Mike Patton “The Real Thing” -era (Yes,That’s $200 in real actual honest earth money). And that’s because it’s based on the assumption it’s not going to realistically happen. It’s all wishful thinking, and if this were to actually transpire, I would be living in crazy inflation land. By the end of the evening, I’m sure I would also have paid $75 for a shirt, and $12 for a Pepsi.
Although the Virtual Boy may be hated by many gamers, it’s really only the hardware they hate. The games the Virtual Boy has are actually great and deserve to be played by more people. You don’t even have to own the system to play the games, since emulation is available. I asked Planet Virtual Boy to help me with this blog and I was able to make a list from their community’s suggestions of 10 games worth playing.
Well folks, here it is! The official Atari Poop Comic. This is always what I intended Atari Poop to be. My educational background being in, as you will obviously recognize in a second, fine arts, I had originally pitched this idea to the folks here at 1 More Castle. While it was accepted, I quickly realized I just didn’t have the time necessary to produce something of this caliber every week, so we struck a compromise: I would write an article every week, all the while working on the comic until I had a backlog that would at least cover several months. I’m pleased to announce that I already have enough strips to fill every Monday for the next six months, so without further ado, take a look at Atari Poop: The Comic #1!
Originally unveiled at PAX East, this USB powered statue is now up for pre-order from Capcom.
O Canada! Our home and sentient land!
True patriot blood, will be spilled by command.
With beating hearts, we sacrifice,
The humans to the maw.
From far and wide,
O Canada, the meat found will be raw!
Have you ever driven a tank? Me neither. But I’ve controlled a close approximation of one. His name was Leon. Leon S Kennedy and he was a cop. Before he got eaten alive by zombies for the 75th time.
See, Leon had a problem: he couldn’t change directions while moving. Once he started moving in a particular direction, he could only list left or right. If he wanted to make a sharp right or left to avoid an obstacle or enemy, he had to stop, turn and then proceed straight in the new direction he was facing. Did you catch that? YOU HAD TO STOP MOVING TO CHANGE DIRECTIONS. This is what is known as “Tank Controls” and it is a pox on gaming.
According to Capcom’s Christian Svensson (Corporate Officer/Senior Vice-President), it may just be.
I’ll put it simply: Someone ported the original DOOM into Garry’s Mod, and it’s amazing.
Final Fantasy V is launching today in the iTunes store, and bringing with it a bevy of changes.
“Greeeeetingssss” indeed.
Welcome to the weird and wacky world of obscure-Amiga-games-it’s-crazy-but-awesome-they-even-made. A world where nothing makes sense and things that shouldn’t be are but a world you can appreciate nonetheless.
Yes, there is a Plan 9 From Outer Space game based on Ed Wood’s iconic Z-list movie about plastic UFOs on strings, silent undead weirdos and cardboard plane cockpits. The game was released on the Amiga but also DOS and, being a fan of Ed Wood’s demented attempts at filmmaking, it’s one I was certainly very happy to discover.
But I was also curious: could a game based on a bad movie actually transcend the inherent silliness of the original source material and blossom into something…
Dare I say it…
Good?
Over the weekend of March 23-24 2013, Bailey and Hunter, the two Erics, podcast co-hosts, were able to enjoy the Midwest Gaming Classic in Milwaukee (pics or it didn’t happen) on behalf of 1 More Castle. We had a ton of fun introducing kids to NES games for the first time, playing lots of arcade cabinets, shaking hands, and meeting lots of like-minded gamers.
But we had an ulterior motive, too: While we were there, the Retroids podcast network announced that 1 More Podcastle is joining up with them! We got to do a live introduction and everything, alongside AddedXP, the other new podcast on the Retroids network. When we were initially asked if we wanted to join, it really seemed like a no-brainer decision, one with plenty of benefits and no consequences. I can now say that any hesitation I had with joining Retroids was eased by the warm welcome we received from “Trickman” Terry and Ken “Sushi-X” (Retroids founders, whom savvy retro folks may remember as former writers for Electronic Gaming Monthly magazine), along with Joel, the network manager, who even let us sit in on a live podcast recording for his A Band Of Gamers show.
So, just to be clear: 1 More Podcastle is now a part of the Retroids podcast network.
Have access to a 3D printer? Well, there’s some instructions to print your own Goldeneye remote mines waiting to be downloaded.
Hey, remember that Double Dragon 2 remake? Neither did we, but it’s launching next week on XBLA.
Announced this past weekend at the Midwest Gaming Classic (which the Eric’s were at), the newly announced Retron 5 can play the original cartridges of nine retro consoles.
