Can you feel it? We are getting ever so close to the end of the quest to unite the first eight Nintendo 64 reviews with the rest of the project. After this review, just one more until the entire band is back together and I can continue on my merry way until all 296 games have fallen to my keyboard. Consider the remastering of these eight reviews like grinding in an RPG before you move forward but in a fun, hopefully enjoyable way. The seventh review was for a perennial favorite of mine. Okay, yeah, I know. I’m a sucker for Chiptune. I am working hard to get people to interview, but when you are me, that’s a lot of dead end streets. Not to mention, I have a real life. Bruce Lee is known as one of the most influential martial artists who ever lived. He was a Hong Kong film actor and the founder of Jeet Kune Do. He was a legendary actor and martial artist who unfortunately passed away too soon.
His legacy lives on in several video game characters that resemble, act like, or fight like Bruce Lee. I decided to count down these characters inspired by Lee. Keep in mind that these are retro game characters inspired by Bruce Lee and not just video game versions of Bruce Lee.

Humongous Entertainment is arguably one of the strongest developers when it comes to edutainment, having many popular gaming franchises that typically involve the adventure genre, all while also teaching themes with stories that can even appeal to some older audiences too. Pajama Sam’s first gaming entry presented a dream-like story that culminated in conquering one’s fears about darkness, Spy Fox had tension with trying to solve detective-like mysteries, Freddi Fish was a mystery series that explored aquatic settings, and Fatty Bear… well, actually, that series never really took off. One series that I used to play a lot was Putt-Putt, which involved the zany adventures of an anthropomorphic car and his overly energetic puppy: these journeys included setting up a parade, getting launched to the moon, saving animals at a zoo, and even joining a race! But I wanted to play something that was new to me, so for today’s review, I’m analyzing Putt-Putt and Fatty Bear’s Activity Pack.

Playing With Power – Nintendo Power #8
Overall, issue 8 feels like it spends a lot of time looking forward and not as much on what’s current. But given that this issue would have been produced during the summer of 1989, there wouldn’t have been too many games coming out around that time. Still, in this issue we get a great look at the NES classic Ducktales and more information on the RPG that Nintendo hoped would storm America, Dragon Warrior. We also get a feature on the NES Satellite which allowed 4 player gameplay on games that supported it. The games listed that support it are mostly sports game but I was a bit surprised to see that Nightmare on Elm Street supports 4 players. Read More
