Early Turok 3 Prototype Found

Another day, another game prototype found. A work in progress version of Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion (N64) has been found, and the owners over at Micro 64 have been kind enough to release a ROM dump of it.

The Untouchables: NES

Last week I was browsing Netflix after my girlfriend went to bed and I came up with the 1987 gem ‘The Untouchables’. Kevin Costner, Sean Connery, and Robert DeNiro all star in this exaggerated telling of the real life story of how Elliot Ness worked to take down the criminal kingpin Al Capone in 1930’s Chicago. Someone at Ocean thought that this very violent movie (even by today’s standards) would make a great video game on several home gaming and computer systems back then, including the venerable Nintendo Entertainment System .

Aldo’s Adventure

I’ve certainly been scraping the barrel lately in terms of old DOS games.

With the help of one cheap “500 Games in 1“-style PC compilation, I’ve been rediscovering a lot of crappy games I’d completely forgotten about.

One of them was Aldo’s Adventure, a Donkey Kong/Mario Bros. clone with a main character who kinda looks like Mario if Cheech Marin had got the part in the Super Mario Bros. movie instead of Bob Hoskins back in the day.

Atari Poop – Top 5 Most Racist Atari 2600 Games

Racism in video games: it’s not just a modern gaming problem. Sure, C.J.’s first mission in San Andreas has him stealing a bike and some people didn’t like Resident Evil 5 for all of the African villager killing, but you can’t forget pretty much everyone in Punch-Out!, Pokemon’s Jynx, and MAMMA MIA Super Mario himself. Yes, video games have a long, storied, and terribly embarrassing history with race, and the 2600 is no exception. Here are the top 5 most racist games to ever be released for the console.

N64 Connoisseur

Only Available in Japan

As gamers, we tend to have it pretty good in North America. For the most part, we seem to be catered to more often than not and most games tend to be made with a “how will we sell this in America?” attitude. On the Nintendo 64, though, Japan got quite a few games that we in North America did not. Today, I wanted to take a look some of the Japanese exclusives that we wish had made it to North America.

Panic Restaurant

Ever heard of Panic Restaurant for the good ole regular Nintendo? Me neither. I found it by accident a few weeks ago while looking for something to play on my flash-cart*. While highly coveted by the collector peeps, how is it as a game? and why the hell is the restaurant panicking anyway?

Unreleased/Cancelled Virtual Boy Games

In my last few articles I’ve talked about if the Virtual Boy is as bad as people say, Virtual Boy games worth playing, and the Japanese Virtual Boy games. But now, for the last Virtual View article, I’ll be talking about the unreleased/cancelled games that were planned to be on the Virtual Boy. 33 games were confirmed but never released for the Virtual Boy. While their isn’t information about all 33, I’ll be informing you about the games that have information about them.

Atari Poop – Space Invaders

If you google Space Invaders and take a quick look around the Internet, you’ll figure out fairly quickly that this is the place I’m supposed to tell you that Space Invaders was a killer app before killer apps even existed, how it quadrupled sales of the 2600 upon its release, and how it was one of the most important games from the golden age. If you dig a little deeper, you might even find out that some people think the game was created by the American military to prepare young American children for the fight against aliens, or communists… I forget which.  Instead, this is the place were I tell you that the game is about Mormons and Jehovah’s Witnesses ringing your doorbell (a.k.a., invading you space) and how a few very sick people think they and other religious minorities should be murdered.

Lock ‘n’ Chase

I’m not a big fan of Pac-Man. There, I said it. I know I’m supposed to be, judging by the general age of the games I cover here, but, meh. Maybe because I always thought the 2600 release of Pac-Man was normal (it’s not) and was representative of ‘all Pac-Mans’. I really like the Championship versions of Pac Man on modern consoles, but old Pac-Man? Eh. Maybe because I played too many other things that were similar much more often, and in my opinion, better, so when I went to the honest to goodness arcade version of Pac-Man, I’m kind of let down. I much prefer games like Lock ‘n’ Chase.
